Some of us are born with well-endowed girls but some of us aren’t quite as lucky. Normally, we would get some extra boost of confidence when we hide our insecurities under the good o’ push up bra; but once that uncomfortable piece of clothing comes off, we feel a sense of liberation and freedom. Now, not everyone who thought about breast augmentation are ladies with smaller sizes, but well-endowed ladies may also not like the shape of their boobs. Regardless of the reason, you can be sure that this article about the various types of procedure you can get done will definitely be of help for you to make a decision! Lets go through the different kinds of surgeries one can get on their breast in a two-part series, starting with the most common one; breast augmentation.

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation surgery involves using breast implants (made of silicone) or fat (fat-grafting) to increase the size of your breasts, to restore breast volume lost after weight loss or pregnancy, to achieve a more rounded or fuller shape, or to improve breast size symmetry. Breast augmentation is also referred to as augmentation mammoplasty. When fat is used for volume, the procedure is referred to as fat transfer breast augmentation or commonly known as fat-grafting. Essentially, breast augmentation refers to the process of making one’s breast bigger.

Breast Implant Methods

Other than the different kinds of implants one can choose to be inserted into their breasts, they can also choose the different surgical site where the implants will be inserted from.

  • The methods are:
  • A) Inframammary (Under the breast)
  • B) Transaxillary (Armpits)
  • C) Periareolar (Nipple)
  • D) Transumbilical ( Navel )

Many may not know but the Transumbilical method (often called the blind method) is the least common form of incision. All surgeries have some risk of scarring arising from the incision site, therefore delicate care should be taken care of after surgery. Your doctor will best advise which incision point is most suitable for your case. On the other hand, fat grafting is performed through key-hole surgery, therefore the risk of scarring appearing is very low.

Difference between breast implants and breast fat grafting?

Both of these procedures’ main goal is to increase the size and volume of the breast and they both have their pros and cons. For breast implants, it is the most commonly known form of procedure one can get when it comes to breast augmentation. There are many different types of implants available nowadays that one can choose from to achieve the results, shape and size that one desires for their breast shape. The breast implants method involves silicone implants; therefore, it may take a long time before your breast feels natural enough (approximately 1-2 years). On the other hand, the fat-grafting method takes only about 3-6 months for it to become soft and natural feeling. The downside to the fat-grafting method is that the chances of it being re-absorbed back into your body is very high as it consists of your own fats harvested from other parts of your body. It will be absorbed even faster when one tries to diet after the procedure. The other downside for fat-grafting is that the maximum size one can obtain is about 1 to 1.5 cup size bigger than what you originally have. In the long run, it is a much better option to get implants as compared to fat-grafting as your implants will always be there, unless of course, you decide to take them out.

I hope this article is useful for you to choose between implants and fat-grafting for your breast augmentation procedure!
