Hey y’all! I’ve been doing research on getting this procedure down for over a year now so I think my experience will be helpful to others interested in the lip curl/mouth corner surgery. I was taken care of by Dr. Seong jae Hong, who apparently was at another clinic specializing in the procedure (I think it was Deese). He was great to talk to in my opinion, because he actually listened to what I wanted but at the same time tried to realistically balance the best results for my face. Hyundai's English consultant was off that day so Misooda's consultant came by to help with translation.
I had previously had a bullhorn lip lift done simultaneously with a mouth corner lift in the US the year before. While I achieved the philtrum length I wanted, the US version of the corner lip lift wasn’t enough to offset the downturn that naturally comes with philtrum shortening. I was looking for something more aggressive to offset the negative aspects of my previous surgery. Dr. Hong walked me through how this Korean corner lip lift can involve scarring depending on how much the lips are upturned. He showed me in a mirror using q-tips on my face the two types of smile lift surgeries they do there: 1) natural/minimal scarring, and 2) slightly more aggressive/potential scarring. Initially I wanted option 2, since I felt like my lips were much more downturned than your average person. After talking a bit, we decided to go in between options one and two for me since Dr. Hong didn’t want to give too much scarring since I already has some from my last lip surgery. After that we were shuffled to meet with the head consultant again to be shown pictures of how both options would look like since I requested to be shown how bad scarring could potentially be.
This is when things sort of went unexpected. While we were chatting, the head consultant mentioned that since this would be considered revision lip surgery because I had previous scarring from my past lip surgery, the pricing would be more than what was quoted on the Misooda site. I was shocked because I explained to them that I had only brought the amount the consultant quoted me, which was the Misooda promotion amount. The head consultant looked confused and asked I had mentioned if I had previous lip surgery done to my English consultant on Kakao and then proceeded to tell me she wasn’t sure if I could proceed with surgery then. I told her that I had and showed her proof on my Kakaotalk app, and her and my translator realized the in-house consultant must have missed me mentioning that in between all the texts and questions/logistics about my surgery. Either way Miss Miu was seriously a god-send. She kept advocating for me and asking if anything could be done like if I agreed to take extra photos/write reviews for them. I seriously was just lost while her and the head consultant just went back and forth about what could be done until the head consultant went out to confirm with I’m not sure who but guessing other higher ups, but she’s came back saying that they’d honor the original quoted price. I got super scared for a second because even though I had gotten revisional DES done two days before, my objective coming to Korea was really about fixing my lips. I feel really fortunate that the head consultant was so fair and my Misooda consultant was there with me. I really got the vibe that Hyundai’s head consultant really does care about their image and knew short changing patients would be bad business practice anyway, so I’m glad they weren’t intent on doing any harm to anyone.
Fast forward to surgery, Dr. Hong was super kind and asking me constantly if I was okay the whole time he was operating on me. It took about an hour, which I thought was reasonable considering they had to deal with some old scar tissue on my lips and getting rid of some dissolvable stitches still there from my previous surgery. The surgery was painless since I was put on sedation instead of local anesthesia, which I’m not sure is everyone’s case but was for mine since I was a more difficult case.
Here’s some pictures of my lips after my first lip surgery in the US to compare to. Also disclosure, I’ve been talking to my Misooda consultant since people steal pictures from sites and use it for their own purposes, I’m letting them watermark my photos so the credit goes to them for helping me out with the promotion.
